The Warm Neutrals Edit

Chalk it up to age, trends, or simply the time of year, but I am finding myself very attracted to the warm, creamy, oatmeal tones. These colors just look like the definition of COZY. Warm Neutrals are also incredibly flattering (they brighten up dark skin-tones & warm up cool/pale skin-tones like mine), and therefore, are perennially stylish.

oatmeal

Now there are few color terms we need to discuss. As you can tell, I prefer the shade/term Oatmeal. Oatmeal is a brighter/whiter shade, with the tiniest amount of blue in it to just balance out the the yellow/browns - particularly well suited to cooler skin-tones.

beige

You also have Beige - a color name & shade that very few people can agree on what the exact shade really is, but essentially is a flat, brown tone. Beige looks best I find on dark-olive skin-tones, as it balances out the blacks & yellows in their skin, appearing lighter and brighter by contrast.

khaki / camel

Khaki is a color that originated in military uniforms, originally intended to blend into urban environments. This color is also sometimes referred to as camel, due to how closely the color matched camels, used in the various 19th & early 20th century military operations in the East. khaki, in tone, is mostly closely related to beige, as it is also a flat tone but with a good deal more yellow in it. On a sliding scale, khaki would be closer to white than beige, which would be closer to black. Khaki I also find looks stunning on dark-olive skin-tones, but especially olive skin-tones - the yellow undertones really bring out the warmth in olive-skinned people like nothing else.

cream

Honorable mention - cream. Cream is the color on the warm neutral scale that is closest to pure white. It’s mostly white, with a touch of yellow to warm it up. If you put a glass of milk & cream next to each other, you will find that actual dairy cream has a touch of yellow to it, this is due to the natural fats present in cream, versus milk which is strained. I actually think that cream is a universally flattering color - any & all skin-tones can wear it because the hint of yellow brings warmth to cooler tones, and still brightens darker skin-tones.
